This movie is based on the book "Bridget Jones Diary" (duh!) and in my opinion it is a great movie that all girls who possess healthy levels of estrogen should love it. I do think that the book is better but the movie is still great. Oh and everyone go read the book if you haven't and the the sequel (Bridget Jones Beyond the Edge of Reason) hmmm maybe I should seek employment advertising Briadget Jones merchandise ;) *DISCLAIMER: As you 'might' have been able to tell I am 'slightly' obsessed with these books and so I 'might' have a 'slight bias'...... maybe

Office Space is about some guys who work in an office (brillant huh) who are going to get laid off and try to scam the company for money. The movie was fairly funny but here in Hudson, WI it is quoted CONSTANTLY by the male population of our school... especially those in my AP Chem class, so I pretty much already had the movie memorized. But anyway... back to the review.... it is funny so it is worth renting and I guess that boys think that it is hilarious.... but poor Milton!!!

Monsters, Inc. is a wonderful flick for everyone. It is a hilarious movie in which the humor is directed at all ages. It begins in a monster world where the monsters scare kids as a job. They believe that kids are toxic to them and that one touch will kill them. The results would be horrific if a child entered the monster world and the plot takes a twist when one does... Anyway, this is a definate must see with friends, family, or complete strangers. Check it out!

as a birthday treat to me, my father took me out to dinner and a movie. we went to the olive garden (which i would write a restaurant review of if taht was an option here, but since it's not, i'll just say it was REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD!), and after receiving a "free" chocolate cake (and noticing an extra 3.50 on the check), we left the pasta palace and went to the theatre. (trust me, steve, the intro is so needed. it sets the mood.) i wanted to see some silly action movie, but since my dad is a bit *overprotective*, i settled for CHOCOLAT, a movie i knew absolutely nothing about. (i made my dad buy me some dots, something he never does but since it was my b-day, he did- yay!) we sat down, and readied ourselves to be amazed. and so we were. there was no way that i would be disappointed on my birthday. the story revolves around several quircky characters in a very tradition French town (i think it was set in the 1950s, elvis had just gotten big...). a woman and her daughter and the daughter's imaginary pet kangaroo (who causes several schoolyard brawls) arrive in the town with the intent of opening a chocolate shop. during lent, that is. so of course, the count (or mayor-dude) encourages the churchgoers (or every last person in the small town) to abstain from the new temptation. this plan, of course, fails. i mean, it's chocolate!!! what person in his or her right mind would turn down very very very high quality chocolate (which made me, by the way, cause a small river of saliva to drown several dots in my hands)??????? of course, a love interest develops between the choclate lady and a "pirate." after several interesting conflicts and a birthday party, the ending is not surprising (hey, any movie about chocolate has to end happily, does it not?), but rather causes the moviegoer to smile knowingly. i give this movie ****1/2 our of ****1/2. rent it or whatever. but keep in mind, it does make you a tad hungry for chocolate cake (i was readily prepared, hehe) and thirsty for some kick-butt hot cocoa.

The American President

Genre: drama
Rating: Great!

Andrew Sheppard (Michael Douglas) is the President of the United States in this movie. He is a single father from Wisconsin (he even mentions the Packers--YAY! ok, I'll stop now... ;-) As he is a widower, he begins dating Sydney (Annette Bening). He is up for reelection in one year and Sen. Bob Rumson (Richard Dreyfuss) is launching a character debate, using things from both Andy and Sydney's lives. Andy refuses to get involved in the debate since he believes that there will not be a winner, and his approval ratings drop dramatically. Eventually, Andy hurts Sydney and she leaves him to go work in Connecticut (one of those states up there). Can Andy ever convince her to forgive him? This movie also starts Martin Sheen and Michael J. Fox. This is a good movie with some really great scenes. My favorite is at the end. I can't really describe it without giving it away, but it's at the press conference, for those of you who have already seen it. There are also some smart comebacks since Andy's advisors keep telling him to get into the fight and he keeps refusing. All in all, a great movie. Go see it!

Vivian Ward (Julia Roberts) is a hooker on Hollywood Blvd. and one night goes to a hotel with Edward Lewis (Richard Gere). It's simply business for Vivian and company for Edward, but over time it begins to grow into more. But Edward knows he's not the relationship type, so she leaves. Will they get together? For crying out loud, all of you probably know the answer to that question, but for those of you who don't, I recommend this movie too. Very good! :-)

Rating: Ehhhh...

This movie was designed to be similar to Pretty Woman, simply in the fact that both Richard Gere and Julia Roberts (as well as Hector Elizando) star and Garry Marshall directs. But this movie was no where NEAR as good as the original. It starts out with Ike (Gere) writing an article describing Maggie's (Roberts) habit of leaving grooms at the altar. She's pissed b/c it's not 100% accurate, and he gets fired after she complains. He goes to her hometown to rewrite the article--with actual facts this time (*GASP!*), and end up falling in love with her, as she does with him. (saw that one coming, huh?) But she ends up running from him on their wedding day (the day originally planned for groom #3, but she dumped him for Ike). What happens? If you really care, go rent it, but it's not that good. It's an ok movie to pass the time, but I wouldn't waste any money on it.

not only was this movie cheesy, it was rank, too. dank liked it, but then again, it was dank... anywho... ricky, dank and i went out to have some fun while everyone else in plymouth (and i mean everyone... we called like fifty people...) is in milwaukee having fun watching nickelback.(grr.) so, we go to burger king (on the way narrowly missing a deer the size of a house). it was raunchy. so we went to see shallow hal. the movie revolves around a deep guy who has been desensitized by the death of his father. hal is REALLY shallow when it comes to women. he looks for young, bodacious women with several specific... um... endowments. so... this self-improvment guru hypnotizes hal so he only sees the inner beauty of the women he sees. of course, he meets up with gwyneth. the antics that follow include several broken chairs, several interesting conversations, several broken hearts, several interesting peace corps members, a man with turd infatuations and a tail. all i have to say is that perhaps dank enjoyed in perhaps a little too much... * and 1/2 out of **** and 1/2. so don't pay money for it. maybe see it if someone else rents it. that's my story and i will never think of jason alexander the same way.

The One

Genre: Action/Sci-Fi
Rating: Matrix Rip-Off

This movie stars Jet Li, and is full of special effects at every turn. Andy told me that it had no plot, but great special effects. He was half-right. There was no plot, and the special effects were all ripped-off of The Matrix. For those of you that have seen it, bullet time was in there, as were the flying sparks (when they realize Neo's "The One"), Trinity's wall-walking, and her roof-jumping. One minor difference--all of these stunts were poorly filmed or poorly performed. All the same, they didn't live up to what I expected. There was "person time" (or whatever you want to call it) where this one guy was moving REALLY fast in comparison to everyone else, and the other bodies were moving like bullets in bullet time. Only this looked like a scene out of a video game. Once again, I was not impressed. Overall, I'd say only see this movie if you are either REALLY bored or you REALLY like Jet Li. It's what I call a waste of $6.50.

And and and across the street lives this foreign exchange student from France, and she doesn't speak English. She lives with a really really creepy guy and his mom. Eyh they're annoying. Ok, this is a good movie in general, and I, for one, have never read the books. Therefore, the one thing that really sucked about the movie is that it DIDN'T END!!!! It ends with two groups of people going off in two different directions, and you know that bad stuff is going to happen to them. There's no conclusion!! So, yeah, that sucked. But, other than that, it was good. It was original (b/c I hadn't read the books), the acting was good, same for special fx, etc. Overall, I'd recommend this movie, but if you absolutely CANNOT handle a conclusion-less movie, I'd wait until all 3 are out. But then you'll have to wait 2 more years. Your call. :-)

It sucks. It really really sucks. It markets itself as a movie that takes from teen movies (ala "Scary Movie"). Yeah, it takes from teen movies, but it's done in a very sucky fashion. Janie is the typical poor girl who's being changed by the popular guy to make her prom queen blah blah blah. Highlights of the movie: 1. Molly Ringwald shows up and swears at the stars for suckying. Legally Blonde

Genre: Romantic Comedy
Rating: Cute and funny!

Well, this was the third movie in a row that I have watched with Ali Larter (after Varsity Blues and American Outlaws). Rather unimportant facts, I know, especially since Reese Witherspoon is the star of the movie. Just rambling, as always. ;-) The premise is that Witherspoon's character goes to Harvard Law to follow her boyfriend who broke up with her because she "isn't serious enough if he'll be a senator by the time he's 30." So she shows up and is totally lost at first. But over time, she begins to enjoy law school as she figures out how to actually be a student. Anyhow, I enjoyed this movie, and if I had to rename it, I would call it "Clueless Goes to Law School." It's a funny, lighthearted movie about how a "dumb blonde" manages to use her fashion sense to succeed in the courtroom. I thought it was good, but most guys won't like it--unless they're just watching it for the cute girls in bikinis at the beginning.

Genre: Cartoon (Non-Disney)
Rating: Really good, for a G-rated cartoon

Ok, ok, ok. Before you all start groaning and complaining that I'm reviewing a G-rated cartoon, I just wanna say that this movie is really good. It's basically about Princess Anastasia who was the lost daughter of Czar Nicholas of Russia. When the rest of her family was killed, she escaped, but she had amnesia. She later meets up with Dimitri and Vlad, and they take her to Paris to meet the Grand Duchess--her grandmother. They want the reward money she is offering, but "Anya" (as she calls herself) doesn't realize this until much later. Evil Rasputin continuously tries to kill her, but her new dog Pooka, keeps getting Dimitri to save her. She slowly begins to fall for Dimitri, until she realizes that everything was a lie. Will Dimitri ever get past the fact that he was, at one point, one of her servants? Will Anastasia ever get past the fact that Dimitri lied to her? What will happen?? Watch it to find out!

Genre: Unknown
Rating: Highly recommended

Starring: Leelee Sobieski, Josh Hartnett, and Chris Klein

Plotline: Sam (Sobieski) and Jasper (Hartnett) both live in a small town and have been dating for years. They love each other and often spend the nights hanging out at Mable's Table--the diner Sam's mother owns. One night, Kelley (Klein) shows up after he and 2 friends sneak out of their prep school in his new car. Jasper and Kelley have words, and end up racing down the dirt roads around the town. One of the cars ends up hitting the gas pumps at the gas station, which sends Mable's Table up in flames. As their punishment, Jasper and Kelley are sentenced to help rebuild the diner. Kelley grudgingly does so, but he soon begins to fall in love with Sam. This is a very sad movie, but I highly recommend it.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Genre: British Comedy
Rating: 4 1/2 Stars

I first saw this movie after my best friend told me how wonderful it was. we watched it at her house (after searching several stores for an unrented-copy), and I laughed enough during the first few frames (the credits actually) that I thought the rest of the movie would be equally funny. and it was. for those of you crazy people that haven't seen this wonderful movie, the non-plot revolves around king arthur and his merry men (wait... that's robin hood... I mean his knights) searching for the holy grail, a type of fancy cup that Jesus drank from at the last supper (and for those of you who know indiana jones, they were looking for the wrong cup, were they not?). anywho... these loony knights end up splitting up and confronting monstrosities such as a three headed knight whom sir robin bravely ran away from... a castle flooded with virgins longing to be touched by sir galahad... and several others meeting the knights who say "ni!"

In this funny british comedy, we witness (or almost witness) a blood thirsty rabbit feast on several heavily armed men, a big wooden rabbit fly over a stone wall, a rather confusing conversation concerning coconuts and sparrows (which we all know about thanks to steve's question in issue 7), several bloodied limbs flopping to the ground, and a group of annoying minstrels being eaten by their heroes (and there was much rejoicing...). so, I guaruntee this movie will deliver laughter. if it doesn't, you are warped. this has been sarah typing prolly a little too much too late at night... ****1/2 (four and a half stars out of four and a half stars... yes, I know my rating system is weird, ah well...)

[Editors Note: Better when watched with friends late at night with caffinated soda.]

Genre: Romantic Comedy

This movie stars Kate Beckinsdale, John Cusack, and Molly Shannon, among other. (Molly Shannon's in it so you know it's gotta be funny.)

Anyhow, the premise is that Sara (Beckinsdale) and Jonathan (Cusack) meet one day five years ago. At this time they both have significant others, but they feel a connection. Sara, however, is a big believer in "fate" and "destiny" so she decides that she will see him again only if fate wants her to. So she had him write his name and phone number on a $5 bill and she spends it. She says that she will write her name and phone number in a certain book and sell it to a used book store the next day. If he finds the book or if she finds the bill, they are fated to be together and then they can contact each other. Jonathan thinks she crazy, but he agrees since otherwise he's never have a chance to see her again.

Years pass, and both are engaged. Yet they both feel as if they missed out all those years ago. But at this time, Sara lives in California (not NY as she did years ago). She takes her friend (Shannon) on a "birthday trip" which is actually an effort to find Jonathan. Will they succeed? Will they live happily ever after? Watch to find out!

This is your typical Hollywood musical - lots of dancing, lots of singing, little acting. This one is about a girl (Garland) who's taking care of her family farm when suddenly her little sister comes home and brings the cast of her play with her. They use the barn (after much bargaining with Garland) and everything turns bad when the stars of the play run off, and then it's good again when Garland steps up to play the role. Garland ends up trying not to fall for her little sister's man, the director, (Gene Kelly) but does anyway - sorry for ruining the ending. Don't see this. It's terrible. Think "State Fair" as performed by PHS. Yes, it's that bad. The dancing is a little better in the movie, though. I gotta give credit to Gene Kelly for knowing how to dance.
